Where and when do you meet?
We meet Tuesday evenings 7pm-9pm in the Assembly Room at Kendal Town Hall.
What do people like about being part of The Growing Singers?
“I like the variety of music. It makes me laugh.”
“The camaraderie. Lovely sense of achievement when it all comes together. Helps to leave the stress behind.”
“Your good humour! I feel so good at the end of the evening and sing all the way home – very uplifting!”
“I like the really friendly large group. It is a great way of being able to sing with people who make a very good sound when you are a bit self conscious, don’t have a strong voice. I don’t like feeling exposed but love the idea of singing with others.”
“The supportive atmosphere, which follows from your positive and encouraging approach. It feels safe to make mistakes.”
What do we offer members of The Growing SIngers?
- We offer a minimum of 30 singing sessions a year, it is usually more like 32!
- We arrange and invite you to sing at a minimum of 2 community events a year.
- We offer the challenge of learning a variety of new and old songs from all sorts of singing traditions, building a repertoire of those songs with the choir over time.
- We send out a weekly email outlining what we covered in the session.
- We arrange access to the exclusive Growing Singers members’ area of our website. Here you can see and download song words and audio tracks for everything we sing.
- We pay composers and arrangers of the songs we sing, for copyright and licences to teach and perform their songs.
- You’ll already be fundraising just by your membership of the choir. Each month we donate 5% of all membership subs straight to GROWING WELL , a local charity just outside Kendal offering free, effective support for local people’s mental health on an organic farm.
What is expected of The Growing Singers members?
- You pay a monthly direct debit of £25.
- You give a month’s notice if you wish to leave the choir.
- You attend as many face to face sessions as you can. However…
- …we quite understand that life sometimes gets in the way! If you are not going to be able to attend, please let us know by email or by marking on the register in the room.
- …if you are poorly, please don’t come and share your germs with us all – catch up when you can using details in the weekly email and the members’ area tracks and song information.
- You read and respond, where needed, to the weekly email.
- You listen to song tracks and practise words in between singing sessions, particularly if you miss the weekly session or a performance is coming up.
- You keep access to the music in our members’ area safe and not distributed outside the group.
How much will it cost?
If you commit to joining then you’ll pay £25 a month, paid 12 months a year on a monthly basis by direct debit using a system called Go Cardless. This includes all 30 singing sessions, at least 2 performances a year and access to our website members’ area where you’ll find all our song words and singing tracks.
